Fort Ritner is an unincorporated town in Guthrie Township, Lawrence County, Indiana.
The town of fort ritner was named in honor of Micheal Ritner,
a foreman in the construction of a tunnel and on the old ohio and mississippi railroad nearby. Ritner was also the first merchant.
having started a store while engaged in construction work.
Later merchants included the firm of Reed and Waters Moses Wortham and one Brosika, John and William A. Holland. Gabriel Brock was the first postmaster. the post office having been established in 1858.
